چکیده
The paper critically reviews the presently available experimental data from various tests and experiments connected with the deepsea mining issue with regard to their feasibility in supporting and validating the developed numerical models. Numerical modelling is applied mainly to predetermining the plume development and sea oor blanketing caused by various sediment discharges. The paper describes processes included in these models and discusses the experimental acquisition of needed model parameters. The existing models and their validation are shortly reviewed and parameters essential to operate and validate them are pointed out. Recommendations for further eld studies are given in order to improve the quality of model forecasts.

Numerical modelling of the underground roadways in coal mines– uncertainties caused by use of empirical-based downgrading methods and in situ stresses
Numerical modelling techniques are not new for mining industry and civil engineering projects anymore. These techniques have been widely used for rock engineering problems such as stability analysis and support design of roadways and tunnels, caving and subsidence prediction, and stability analysis of rock slopes. Despite the significant advancement in the computational mechanics and availabili...

متن کاملEcological impacts of large-scale disposal of mining waste in the deep sea
Deep-Sea Tailings Placement (DSTP) from terrestrial mines is one of several large-scale industrial activities now taking place in the deep sea. The scale and persistence of its impacts on seabed biota are unknown. We sampled around the Lihir and Misima island mines in Papua New Guinea to measure the impacts of ongoing DSTP and assess the state of benthic infaunal communities after its conclusio...
متن کاملCalculation of One-dimensional Forward Modelling of Helicopter-borne Electromagnetic Data and a Sensitivity Matrix Using Fast Hankel Transforms
The helicopter-borne electromagnetic (HEM) frequency-domain exploration method is an airborne electromagnetic (AEM) technique that is widely used for vast and rough areas for resistivity imaging. The vast amount of digitized data flowing from the HEM method requires an efficient and accurate inversion algorithm. Generally, the inverse modelling of HEM data in the first step requires a precise a...
متن کاملNumerical Modelling of the Segmental Lining of Underground Structures
There are several methods for analysing the behaviour of underground structures under different loading conditions. Most of these methods have many simplifications; therefore, in some cases, the results are too conservative and a very high safety factor, usually of more than 2 is needed. On the other hand, for stability analysis and the designing of support systems, these methods consider segme...
